Product Review - Cygnet Boho Spirit

I wanted to make myself a new hat and really liked a pattern I had seen on the Cygnet website. The Mini Bean Stitch Boho hat.

I've never used this yarn before, as I'm sure some of you haven't either, so I thought I would write up a review.

When you first pick up the yarn you notice it has a subtle sheen but it also has a slightly mohair look which immediately made me assume that it would split when working with it, especially if you had to rip it back. I admit because of this I wasn't completely sure I would like the finished item before I started the project, but I went ahead anyway as I know from previous new yarn adventures that the finished item is often very different to the yarn in its ball form.

I am so glad I did as I already knew it was going to be a lovely hat before I had even finished the band! My assumptions about the yarn splitting were completely wrong. I didn't experience any issues with it splitting or any breaking off etc while working with it, and I even did a simple sample where I ripped it back and reworked it a few times just to test its hardiness. I'm pleased to say that it passed the test. The mini bean stitch makes a lovely zigzag pattern and it's really simple when you get going. The yarn being between DK and Aran combined with the little beans make the body of the hat quite thick but still squishy. I think this will be a lovely warm hat for chilly, windy days.

The colour changes of the yarn are very subtle and the stripe effect it creates is really pretty. I can't wait to see what other colours look like worked up.

I'm sure you can tell by now that I'm really impressed with Boho Spirit. I think it is a really nice yarn for accessories for both its warm qualities and the fabulous colours.

I used the Horizon colourway as I liked the Autumn vibe it has (Autumn is my favourite season). I added one of my pompoms, but I think I will swap this out for one with more brown tones as soon as I get the materials. The grey pompom would be perfect for the Breeze shade though...I bet you can imagine what will happen next, haha. Well, its all in the name of research, honest.

I hope this review has given you an insight into what this yarn is like now we aren't allowed to touch items before we buy them in shops. If you would like to try out the yarn for yourself please take a look through the shades currently in stock.
